Andean Aid is led by a U.S. board of directors, an NGO in Cucuta, Colombia,

and a Civil Association in Rubio, Venezuela.

 

Our teaching and operations staff are locally based in Venezuela and Colombia.

U.S. BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Andean Aid directors meet quarterly with an agenda set around these priorities:

 

  • Establish policy and procedure for all aspects of the organization

  • Review current status of Help and Hope Center activities

  • Discuss individual situations regarding the children that require special attention

  • Monitor budget and overall financial state of the organization

  • Direct fundraising activities

  • Consider new projects and direct next steps

Julie Anderson, Executive Director
Julie Anderson is a graduate of Trinity International University with a B.A. in Communications. She is also a graduate of the Moody Bible Institute, where she first developed her passion for serving children in at-risk communities as a member of the Executive Board of Little Brothers and Sisters of Chicago. She has served on the board of The Fishing School in Washington, D.C., which provides holistic care and enrichment for at-risk children, and has been a volunteer at Chicago's By The Hand Club in the Cabrini Green neighborhood.

 

Having filmed and photographed staff and children at 9 of the 11 Help and Hope Centers, Julie is honored to use her professional experience as a film, TV and web producer to help Andean Aid tell its story.  She is president of Julie Anderson Media and its non-profit branch, All the World Media, having previously produced programming for PBS and the Oprah Winfrey Network. Julie is a resident of Chicagoland and attends the Chain O'Lakes Community Bible Church.  

Becky Brown
Becky is a business development advisor in the logistics industry who has also held operations and marketing positions. Becky received a BA in Business and Environmental Studies from Lake Forest College, and an MA in Management and Leadership from Liberty University. Becky is also an artist who is interested in recycling and upcycling materials. She resides in the suburbs of Chicago.

 

Les Dlabay

“Learning for a life worth living” is the teaching emphasis of Les Dlabay, who taught in the Department of Economics and Business at Lake Forest College, Lake Forest, Illinois, for 35 years. In an effort to prepare students for diverse economic settings, he makes extensive use of field research assignments related to food, water, health care, education, and business development. Dlabay has authored or has adaptations of over 40 textbooks in the United States, Canada, India, and Singapore. He has taught more than 30 different courses during his career, and has presented over 300 workshops and seminars to academic, business, and community organizations.

 

In addition to serving on the board of Andean Aid, be previously served on the board of Bright Hope International. For more than ten years, he has helped coordinate Inside/Out, an youth ministry in Waukegan. He has also served with Love INC as a teacher/coordinator for money management and personal finance programs. He regularly attends the International Wholistic Missions Conference and other Christian community development events.

 

For several summers, Professor Dlabay worked on research with students to assist Andean Aid. These project included conducting a survey of the Help and Hope Centers; creating  an Andean Aid Operations Manual; translating the Operations Manual into Spanish; proposing a youth enterprise program to develop academic, career, technical, and entrepreneurial skills among Help and Hope Center participants; identifying metrics (key performance indicators) to assess the success of Andean Aid programs; assessing funding alternatives to finance sustainable programs; proposing a sustainable communication and marketing model to engage strategic partners.

Gaby Andrade, Director of Operations

Based in Rubio, Venezuela, Gaby Andrade is the Director of Operations for all of Andean Aid's South American sites. Gaby also serves on the board of Andean Aid’s Civil Association, Una Sonrisa Para Todos Venezuela. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences from Universidad Catolica Del Tachira, and a post-graduate degree in Management of Education from Universidad de Pamplona en Colombia. She has served as the principal for a private school in Rubio, where she makes her home with her husband and son.

Aubrey Davis

Aubrey is Regional Director of Development, Central Region, for Partners in Health, an organization whose mission is to provide a preferential option for the poor in health care by establishing long-term relationships with sister organizations based in settings of poverty. Previously, Aubrey was a writing and speaking skills program administrator at the World Bank. While earning her Masters in International Communication and Development from American University, Aubrey interned in World Vision's Children in Crisis Unit. She has been a language teacher in Japan through the Japan Exchange and Teaching Programme, and has lived in Rwanda as an External Relations Coordinator for Partners in Health. Aubrey resides in the Chicago area with her husband and two daughters.

 

Todd Kearney
Todd is a certified public accountant who has held a variety of accountant and financial analyst positions in the fitness, health care and logistics industries. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Geology from Northern Illinois University, a Master of Science degree in Exercise Physiology from the University of Illinois at Chicago, and studyied science at the College of Lake County. Todd, who is bi-lingual in English and Spanish, has served as treasurer at the Chain of Lakes Community Bible Church, where Andean Aid was launched. Todd and his wife Dhea have three sons and a daughter, and live in Kenosha, Wisconsin.

 

Thomas McArthur

Tom is campus pastor of  The Chapel, Mundelein, the church he and his wife, Marybethe, have attended since 2005, when they relocated from Ames, Iowa. They continue to be constantly on the move with four boys – Elijah, Liam, Ethan, and Zane. From soccer, cross country, Frisbee golf and walking their dog Cinder, they enjoy spending time with each other and God in the great outdoors. A former marketing executive, Thomas says, "I am both honored and humbled to join this amazing Board of Directors as we continue to serve the Venezuelan and Colombian communities in the name of Jesus.  I'm so excited to see all that God has for us in this new year and new decade."


Yoshua Orozco
Yoshua and his wife Astrid are native Venezuelans now living in Chicago, where they attend Maranatha Church, and where Yoshua is on staff and active in the music ministry. The son of two Rubio-based physicians who are also pastors and former missionaries, Yoshua maintains close ties with his friends and family in Venezuela, benefiting Andean Aid with his unique perspective, knowledge of events as they unfold, and ability to translate Spanish and English. Yoshua graduated from the University of San Cristobal with a degree in software engineering, and is an accomplished photographer, videographer, radio engineer and voiceover artist.

Dr. Mark Triller

Mark is a campus pastor to two resident facilities with Presbyterian Homes in Germantown and his hometown of Oconomowoc, Wisconsin. He and his wife Annika have raised six children. Mark has directed study abroad in Spain through Trinity Christian College and has been an administrator and professor with various institutions including Trinity Chrisitan, Madison College, Blackhawk Technical College, Beloit College, and Austin College. He answered a call to ministry in 2013 and served as Executive Pastor of Chain of Lakes Community Bible Church. Mark has studied in Nicaragua, Honduras, Mexico, Dominican Republic, and China. He has degrees from St. Norbert College, DePaul University, Hunan Normal University and Liberty University. Dr. Triller says of Andean Aid, "God has done a visible work within families, neighborhoods, and towns in Venezuela and Columbia. That work has not only transformed their lives but has energized a staff and Board that believe about Jesus, "my ears have heard of you but now my eyes have seen you."

Brent Walker

Brent is a counselor and spiritual director with the Ignatian Center of Montreal. He is also on staff at Communitas, where he assists inmates released from prison with healthy reintegration into society.    He has been a pastor with the Evangelical Free Church of Canada, the Parrsboro Shore Community of Faith  and a chaplain at the federal penitentiary. Brent holds certifications in grief recovery, spiritual directorship, and teaching English as a second language. He earned his Masters in Theology from Concordia University in Montreal and a Bachelor of Arts with Distinction in English Literature from the University of Victoria, BC.  Brent, who is a dual citizen of the US and Canada, grew up on the Nak'azdli reservation in British Columbia. His parents, Richard and Shirley Walker, are Wycliffe Bible translators who translated the New Testament from Greek to the Deneh language, the only two indigenous language New Testaments in British Columbia. 

NGO CUCUTA, COLOMBIA

NGO UNA SONRISA PARA TODOS

Andean Aid operates in partnership with an NGO (non-governmental organization) in Cucuta, Colombia, known as NGO Una Sonrisa Para Todos, or  “One Smile for Everyone.”

 

Like its Venezuelan counterpart at Asociaion Civil Una Sonrisa Para Todos in Rubio, directors of the NGO in Cucuta provide operational oversight and guidance for our Help & Hope Centers in Colombia, and advise the US-based Board of Directors on the status of the children and the operations at each Center, as well as the potential for new Centers.
